“Someone who ‘finds something of himself in everything, and something of everything in himself.’”

– Irving Penn’s definition of a modern photographer

Summer is upon us and with it comes the time to kick back, relax and reflect.

With this post, I’m beginning an occasional series on some of the photographers that have inspired me. Volume 1 takes a look at the work of Irving Penn, one of the grand masters of fashion, beauty, portraiture, still life and the nude.

Penn, who would have turned 102 on the 16 of June, was a consummate technician of lighting, composition and style. He spent the better part of the twentieth century shooting for Vogue, publishing books of his work and creating numerous independent projects.

A selection of his work follows.

Regards,
